The Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival of Greater Philadelphia arrives this Friday, March 4 through April 15, a lively six-week spring celebration of the culture, craft and cuisine of Japan.

Ring in the spring season (it’s March now, after all) with any of the hundreds of traditional or new-this-year events celebrating the fleeting splendor of the sakura (Japanese Cherry Trees).

Festivities include: ceremonial drumming, martial arts exhibitions, a traditional tea ceremony, origami demonstrations, Japanese movies and a special sushi-making presentation, which features nationally recognized master sushi chefs from Japan.

Major events include the elegant Blossom Bash, March 26 at the Rose Garden Ballroom in the Hyatt at the Bellevue, featuring sushi and sake, a silent auction with art and collectibles, live music by Silver Roots Music and a Japanese fusion dinner; the Cherry Blossom 5K, April 10, at the Horticulture Center in Fairmount Park; and Japan Night at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, kicking off the festival on March 4, with live music, guided gallery tours, cocktails and more.

The Festival benefits the JASGP Community Tree Planting Project, which seeks to beautify the Philadelphia landscape by planting and maintaining cherry trees in local parks. Reason enough to get our drink, dance, fashion and shop on.

A complete schedule is available online.
