April Is Earth Month In Philadelphia: Celebrate All Month Long With 5K Runs, Tree Plantings, Park Clean-Ups And More

The Mayor’s Office of Sustainability is leading a citywide celebration of Earth Month this April.

Events include: a “Policies and Politics of Water” talk at the Penn Museum; the 30th Anniversary 5K Run for Clean Air and Earth Day Celebration; and a “Love Your Park” clean-up event throughout the city, a partnership between the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and Greater Philadelphia Cares.

Plus, the Philadelphia Science Festival’s Science Carnival on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway April 16, produced in collaboration with the Philadelphia Book Festival, has a great green component, including Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts’ “Seeing Green — The Art of Ecology” craft station, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s “Plant-a-Plug” flower planting booth and the Philadelphia Department of Public Health’s “The Science of Public Health” information station.

Philadelphia’s Earth Month is already off to a great start: Mayor Nutter just announced that more than 12,000 volunteers helped the city remove a record 1,240,360 pounds of trash during the annual “Philly Spring Cleanup” this past weekend!
