In Conjunction With PIFA, The Arden Theatre Presents Wanamaker’s Pursuit, A Tale Of Philadelphia History

The Arden Theatre Company brings Wanamaker’s Pursuit, a new play by Rogelio Martinez, to life for its world premiere.

It’s the early 20th century, and the world is restlessly awaiting the next big thing. Young Nathan Wanamaker (yes, of those Wanamakers) leaves Philadelphia for Paris in search of the newest fashions for the family department store. Along the way, he is swept away by art, a woman and the intoxicating allure of the city of love.

Wanamaker’s Pursuit features a stellar cast, a lively script, and of course, extravagant fashion. It calls into question the complicated relationship between business and art: Wanamaker, who came to Paris on a business venture, leaves having found something altogether different.

Wanamaker’s Pursuit is the 32nd play to have its world premiere at the Arden. It was produced under the auspices of the Arden’s Independence Foundation New Play Showcase, and is part of the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts.

Bonus: head to the Arden on April 15 for “The Scene,” a networking event for young professionals that includes a cocktail reception and a ticket to the play for the discounted price of $30.
