Photo Of The Day: The Philadelphia International Festival Of The Arts Officially Kicks Off Tonight

The Kimmel Center will be PIFA central every day for the next 25 days, with free performances throughout the day, twice-nightly light shows, wine tastings, French lessons, French food, a full service bar and lots more. (Photo by R. Kennedy for PIFA)

It’s here. The Philadelphia International Festival Of The Arts (PIFA) begins tonight, with a spectacular collaboration between the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Pennsylvania Ballet for a performance of Stravinsky’s complete Pulcinella, accompanied by a new ballet choreographed by Jorma Elo to be performed live onstage.

Tonight’s performance is sold out but you can catch the limited-time, only-in-Philadelphia joint concert April 8, 9, and 10 as well (click here for tickets.) And today and tonight there are already tons of PIFA-associated exhibits and events open throughout the city. Fly School Circus Arts, adjacent to the Kimmel Center, is already up and running for trapeze lessons!

Tomorrow, April 8, is PIFA’s first full day with the launch of the Kimmel Center’s action-packed programming, from free French lessons to wine tastings to twice-nightly Eiffel Tower light shows, plus tomorrow night’s main event: the Fashion Show and the first of XPN’s special edition free-at-noon concerts. Click here for our comprehensive guide to everything you can experience in the Kimmel’s Commonwealth Plaza throughout PIFA.

The multitude of events, activities and performances is overwhelming; but we have your back. Check back here for a daily roundup of what to see and do for PIFA, beginning Monday! Plus, click here for the PIFA iPhone app.
