The Phillie Phanatic Named America’s Favorite Mascot

How fitting: the Phanatic just celebrated his 33rd birthday this Sunday at the ballpark. (Photo courtesy the Phillies)
Tell us something we don’t already know, Forbes Magazine.
Fresh off this Sunday’s birthday celebration at the ballpark, the Phillie Phanatic now has another feather for his cap.
In its annual ranking of top mascots, Forbes Magazine has just named the Phanatic as America’s #1 sports mascot.
The Phanatic had to knock the original mascot, the San Diego Chicken, out of the top spot to claim the title.
An excerpt from the article:
The Philadelphia Phillies are certainly on a roll. The team owns four straight division titles, a 2008 World Championship, one of the best starting rotations in modern history and a state-of-the-art ballpark that’s at capacity every night. It’s enough to make them the envy of about 90% of the sports teams across America. But just when you want to say enough already, the Phillies can dust off one more asset to boast over: the most popular mascot in sports.
The survey measured pro sports mascots on four key attributes: “awareness, appeal, entertainment value and team identification (the degree to which consumers are able to associate a mascot with the team it represents).” The Phillie Phanatic came away with high scores in each.
So congratulations to the Phanatic on earning a very deserved distinction for his never-ending pursuit of happiness for all Phillies fans.
We love you, Phanatic!
