Solomonov, chef and owner of Zahav, beat out four other chefs for the prestigious award for the Mid-Atlantic region, which encompasses Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington, D.C.
Solomonov joins an impressive collection of local Beard Award alumni — previous winners of this same award include Marc Vetri in 2005, Jose Garces in 2009 and Jeff Michaud of Osteria in 2010.
Since opening in May of 2008, Zahav has seen no end of critical acclaim, from Esquire naming the eatery one of the “Best New Restaurants 2008,” to both Conde Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure naming it among the top restaurants in the entire nation in their May 2009 issues.
The James Beard Award is the highest national honor for professionals in the restaurant industry. Chef Solomonov’s recognition is very well-deserved. Congrats Chef!
