The U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team To Take On Arch Rival Mexico At Lincoln Financial Field On August 10; Tickets Go On Sale Friday

BOOM! Philadelphia continues to get spoiled with great soccer: less than a month after Real Madrid's upcoming visit, the U.S. Men's National Team will host their most heated rival Mexico at the Linc on August 10. (Photo courtesy Lincoln Financial Field)

More incredibly awesome news for soccer fans in and around Philadelphia. Not only is the U.S. Men’s National Team coming to play in Philadelphia next month — marking only the third time they will have done so since 1992 — but making the event even sweeter is their opponent: they will be taking on Mexico, their most heated international rival, which basically guarantees that this is going to be an epic match and one that you will want to see for yourself in person.

Taking place just weeks after the highly anticipated Philadelphia Union vs. Real Madrid match at the Linc on July 23 (ahem, a game to which you can still enter to win tickets here), the U.S. National Team will take on Mexico on August 10 at 9 p.m., also right here in Philadelphia at Lincoln Financial Field.

The last time the U.S. National Team played here was the team’s final match before departing for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, an awesome 2-1 victory against Turkey in front of a raucous crowd of 55,407 fans at the Linc. A year earlier, the U.S. sealed a 2-1 overtime victory against Panama in the quarterfinals of the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup in front of another heavily partisan U.S. crowd at the Linc.

So we’re expecting this match to be another great one at the Linc.

And while this will be the first international friendly between the two teams since 2008, the teams are extremely familiar with one another, as evidenced by the 2011 CONCACAF final only a few weeks ago in Los Angeles, which Mexico won 4-2. The teams have met 31 times since 1990, including a U.S. victory over Mexico in the 2002 World Cup, advancing the U.S. to the quarterfinals of the tournament for the first time in 72 years. And since the rivalry between these two teams began in earnest in 1990, the sides have played 31 times, with the U.S. holding a 13-10-8 advantage.

With a history and rivalry this strong, the match is sure to be an epic one.

Tickets go on sale to the public Friday, July 15, at 10 a.m. at ussoccer.com, ticketmaster.com and by phone at 1-800-745-3000.

Ultimate Fan Tickets, which include a premium ticket, a custom made official U.S. national team jersey with name and number, VIP access to the field before and after the game and more, will be available exclusively through ussoccer.com.

Seriously, if last year’s U.S. National Men’s Team match against Turkey at Lincoln Financial Field is any indication of what to expect this year, this match is a can’t miss for soccer fans!

Also, don’t forget to enter to win a VIP Soccer Weekend in Philadelphia for a chance to win two tickets to the Philadelphia Union vs. Real Madrid match, a two-night hotel stay and much more. There’s only two days left to enter, including today!
