The Manayunk Eco-Arts Festival Returns September 24-25: Bicycle-Powered DJs, Sustainable Arts Vendors, Vegetarian Food And Much More

With this weekend’s flooding of Manayunk, it’s a good opportunity to look forward to an occasion that celebrates the neighborhood’s dynamism.
Save the date: the Second Annual Manayunk EcoArts Festival returns September 24-25, a two-day celebration of artistic, sustainable and local green initiatives.
The festival kicks off with a friendly competition among some of Philadelphia’s most successful chefs: the EATS Celebrity Chef Throwdown, set for Wednesday, September 21 at 7 p.m.. You can sample some of the region’s finest street food (including Guapos Tacos!), local brews and mixed drinks. Tickets start at $50 and proceeds go towards the Wat Bodd Voraditt orphanage in Thailand.
At the festival, vendors will line the streets, including artisans utilizing natural techniques like woodwork, soap making, and natural fabric dying, as well as innovative recycling of everything from bottle caps to to salvaged copper pipes.
There will also be an eco-car show, eco-educational series, free clothing swap, recycling bin distribution and live music and DJs with four bicycle-powered generators that will power the equipment.
In addition, there will be vegan and vegetarian dining options, on-site recycling and composting, and easy accessibility from public transit with plenty of parking available as well.
Last year the event drew 30,000+ attendees for a fun-filled weekend of dining, shopping and learning about greener living. Look out for our fleshed-out guide to the festival in the weeks to come.
