World Café Is Celebrating Its 20th Anniversary Throughout October With Special Programs, Concerts, A Special Edition Local Beer And More
The extremely popular, nationally syndicated music and interview station WXPN World Café is turning 20!
And they want you to join them in celebrating their 20th anniversary throughout the month of October with special programs (including a beer week!) concerts, and a weekend-long anniversary musical special.
As a special program during the month of October, every World Café show, famously hosted by David Dye, will feature an hour of interviews from the best of World Café, featuring artists, genres and decades that have influenced music and listeners alike.
The second half of each show will focus on up-and-coming artists, as well as share interviews from chart-topping musicians who have passed through the halls before their fame, including My Morning Jacket, Tori Amos, Norah Jones, Ray LaMontagne and Adele.
The World Café tribute concerts begin on Monday, October 17 with country-rock band The Jayhawks, performing at World Café Live in Wilmington, and continue on Friday, October 21 at the Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA featuring huge musicians Ani DiFranco and Zee Avi.
As we know in Philly, there’s no better way to celebrate than with a custom brew! World Café continues the fun October 3-6 with the World Café Broadcaster Brown Ale Beer Week, as the station collaborates with Philadelphia Brewing Company to create a limited edition beer, which will be available on tap at select bars throughout the city during the week, served by Dye himself.
The official World Café 20th Anniversary weekend, taking place Friday, October 28 and Saturday, October 29, concludes the festivities with performances by John Hiatt, Indigo Girls, The Little Willies, Feist, Dawes and Robbie Robertson at World Café Live Philadelphia.
Tickets are on sale now, starting at $95. Get them online, by phone at (215) 222-1400, or at World Café Live in Philadelphia. Be sure to buy your tickets early; only 250 pairs of tickets are available for each night!
It’s a month full of brews, blues and awesome music; don’t miss out and help World Café ring in the big 2-0!
