In 2003, Mike Cassano and Craig Mosmen opened the doors of The Couch Tomato Café in Manayunk.

The café quickly became a neighborhood institution, a one-of-a-kind fusion of expedient service and quality ingredients.

As the pair started to ask “what’s next?”, the concept of The Tomato Bistro was born. The duo decided to expand on their successful current model, and have now officially opened The Tomato Bistro a scant flight of steps away from the beloved Couch Tomato Café.

The Bistro is literally the upward genesis of the café, transplanting its operating concept into an intimate sit-down environment on the 2nd and 3rd floors of their building on the corner of Main and Rector Streets.

Chef Christian Gatti of Avril in Bala Cynwyd is serving the new restaurant’s clientele with a more upscale version of the Couch Tomato Café’s fare (think specialty salads and gourmet pizzas) in addition to a rotating list of featured wines and craft beers paired with both the food and the seasons.

Also carried over from the café are the moderate prices, and the comfortable forum for family and friends to relax and mingle.

The Tomato Bistro is open seven days a week, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Check out the full menu, below.
