On November 2, in front of a crowd of several hundred, University City District officially christened the new 30th Street Station Plaza “The Porch.”
It’s an exciting new public space at one of Philadelphia’s most important gateways, with colorful tables and seating, plantings and lots of trees.
There will also be fun programming, including music performances and holiday celebrations, and it all starts this weekend with the Fall Festival, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Milk & Honey will present a West Philly honey tasting with Urban Apiaries; there will be a noon cooking demo and tasting by The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College; street Puppetry from Geppetta; a Homespun Merry-Go-Round for the kids; Apple Cider History lesson with Bartram’s Garden; bluegrass and country music and more. Plus the first 100 people get free s’mores kits!
And the Porch fun continues all season long. The Porch Farmers Market runs Wednesday through November 23, 3-7 p.m. Tuesdays, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., through December 6, enjoy a free lunchtime serenade courtesy of Dallas Vietty’s French Swing Accordion music. And catch the popular West Philadelphia Orchestra Thursdays, 4-6 p.m., through December 6.
Exercise-wise, you can put your lunch break to productive use for “Fitness Fridays,” 12:30-1:30 p.m. through December 6, or enjoy the Give & Take Jugglers Fridays 4-6 p.m. through December 9.
