Doylestown’s Historic Fonthill Castle Is Offering Winter Wonderland Tours Throughout December

Modeled after a 13th-century Rhenish castle, Fonthill Castle has Gothic doorways, 32 sudden stairways, dead ends and 44 rooms, all bedecked for the holiday season. (Photo courtesy Fonthill)

If ever there was a location to experience a true winter wonderland, it’s the beautiful Fonthill Castle in Doylestown.

Presently managed by the Bucks County Historical Society, it was once the castle home to archeologist, anthropologist, ceramist, scholar and antiquarian Henry Mercer, who built Fonthill both as his home and as a showplace for his considerable collection of Moravian tiles and prints.

It is an eclectic mix of Medieval, Gothic and Byzantine architectural styles.

A National Historic Landmark, this month Fonthill will be decked out for the holidays throughout the entire month of December. Visit any time during December to participate in a one-hour guided tour through Mercer’s castle to see his elaborately tiled rooms, all the while experiencing the castle decked out in all its holiday finery, complete with themed trees and Victorian greens and decorations throughout.

Regular admission applies and reservations are strongly recommended. Call (215) 348-9461 or email fhmail@fonthillmuseum.org.
