The Mercer Museum in Doylestown is bringing playtime to life this holiday season.

First off, running from December 17 through April 1, 2012, ToyTime, located in the museum’s new state-of-the-art exhibition gallery, captures the excitement of Christmas from a child’s perspective.

ToyTime will showcase life-size versions of some of the most popular kinetic folk toys from around the world, like Whimmy Diddle, Pecking Chickens, Tightrope Walker and Jacob’s Ladder, in addition to all kinds of tumbling, sliding and flipping toys.

There are 16 interactive toy stations crafted entirely of wood, which allow visitors to explore the fun and mechanics behind the toys and games that once enthralled children of all ages.

In conjunction, the Mercer is also presenting Under the Tree: A Century of Holiday Toys. The exhibit features a special display of historic trees, toys and games.

It runs through January 31, 2012, and features trees decorated in the style of earlier eras (1860 to 1950), plus toys and games derived from private collections that delighted children on Christmas mornings of yesteryear.

Stop by and see these holiday exhibits during opening weekend and you can also participate in some fun crafts and games.
