The Space Savers Project, A Citywide Public Arts Initiative Inspired By The Custom Of “Saving” On-Street Parking, To Host A Reception, January 20

The Space Savers Project is a citywide public arts project, inspired by the Philadelphia custom of “saving” on-street parking.
Saving public parking spaces, while technically illegal, is widely practiced throughout all urban areas, including Philadelphia. You’ve seen it before: items like recycling bins, upturned garbage cans, cinder blocks and even broken furniture are used as space savers.
The Space Savers Project, in conjunction with the University City Science Center’s Breadboard group, called on local artists to design and create new alternative space savers in order to reimagine what space saving in the city could look like.
This Friday, January 20, you can check out the results of these local artists’ reimaginings of space-saving, at the Esther Klein Gallery in West Philadelphia.
See all of the Space Savers together, meet the participating artists and share stories about the practice of space-saving in Philadelphia. Refreshments will be served.
The work will be on view through February 5.
