For runners in Philadelphia, the first sign of spring is not flower buds peeping out from the ground or birds chirping in trees. It’s not even when the Phillies’ pitchers and catchers head to Clearwater.
It is, without question, the opening day of registration for the Broad Street Run.
Registration for the 33rd Annual Broad Street Run, touted as the largest 10-miler in the entire U.S., opens on Wednesday, February 15. And if you’ve ever registered for it before, you know that registration in itself is a race against the clock.
In recent years, the run has capped at 30,000 runners and generally sells out within 48 to 72 hours.
The actual race, which starts at the Central High School Athletic Field at Broad and Somerville and ends at the Philadelphia Naval Yard, will take place on Sunday, May 6 at 8:30 a.m. Individual registration to participate is $40.
You’ll pass many of the city’s most important landmarks along the way, including Temple University, City Hall, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, The Avenue of the Arts and the Philadelphia stadium complex.
For the latest information on registration, as well as complete race details, check the race website.
