In honor of Black History Month, Mural Arts has created a dynamic exhibition, Behind These Walls: Visions of Courage, Beacons of Hope, on view at the Art Sanctuary’s new gallery space in the Dickserson Building on South 16th Street.
The exhibition celebrates the one-year anniversary of the Albert M. Greenfield African American Iconic Images Collection, which pays homage to the murals that commemorate the depth and breadth of the African American experience in Philadelphia.
The compilation of murals honors such significant figures as W.E.B. DuBois, Malcolm X, the women of jazz, Patti LaBelle and many others.
Behind These Walls is free and open to the public, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.-5. p.m.
On Wednesday, February 15 from 6:30-8 p.m., join Mural Arts for an opening reception featuring a reading of Gathering of Waters by critically acclaimed author Bernice L. McFadden. Light refreshments will be served. Space is limited, so be sure to RSVP (call (215) 685-0759).
