In town for Presidents’ Day Weekend? It’s a great opportunity to take a tour of the Battleship New Jersey, the 45,000-ton battleship on the Camden Waterfront.
Battleship New Jersey is America’s largest and most decorated battleship. President Ronald Reagan, as part of his “Modern Navy” initiative, stood on the deck of the USS New Jersey and re-commissioned her back into duty in 1982.
Pay homage to the U.S. Presidents who have served in the Navy, including John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard M. Nixon, Gerald R. Ford, Jimmy Carter and George H. W. Bush, with your own experience aboard a Navy ship.
The Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial will be specially open for guided and audio tours on President’s Day, Monday, February 20, from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. (they’re normally just available Saturdays and Sundays).
Climb inside the legendary 16-inch gun turret, experience a simulated tomahawk and harpoon missile launch in the Combat Engagement Center, check out the Navigation Bridge, fly over Iwo Jima during WWII in the 4D flight simulator, and see how more than 55,000 sailors lived aboard this floating city.
To make a reservation, call 1 (866) 877-6262 ext. 144.
