Mark your calendar for this Sunday, April 29, when the entire Fairmount neighborhood turns into a vibrant showplace for local arts, live music, dancing and family-friendly activities for the 8th Annual Fairmount Arts Crawl.

Taking place at more than 40 restaurants, cafes and shops centered around 22nd Street and Fairmount Avenue, the Arts Crawl boasts more than 70 installations featuring works by a diverse mix of local artists working in a range of media including photography, sculpture, painting and printmaking.

Artist Alley will be a key hub for the Arts Crawl that will exhibit art on the sidewalks surrounding Eastern State Penitentiary on 22nd Street between Fairmount and Aspen. Live music will be playing at Fare, Bishop’s Collar, Bridgid’s, LifeSport (where you can also take swing dance lessons), Prudential Fox & Roach and the Ukrainian League.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art is getting in on the action, too, by offering guided tours of The Secret Garden exhibition at the Perelman Building, and a make-and-take workshop inspired by the exhibition.

Plus Blue Moon, a sponsor of the 2012 Fairmounts Arts Crawl, will have their official muralist help festival attendees craft a unique piece of Blue Moon art to highlight the artistic approach they take to brewing. The canvases created by the community will then be displayed in neighborhood bars and restaurants.

While there, be sure to also pop into George Apotsos Gallery where original works by the newly formed Fairmount Artist Network will be on display for the very first time.
