Originating in 1914, the Rittenhouse Square Flower Market for Children’s Charities, the oldest continuously held event in the square, celebrates its 98th annual event May 9-10, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., a great family treat just in time for Mother’s Day.
Free and open to the public, the market will display pots full of indoor/outdoor plants and herbs, snacks, crafts and magic acts performed by Sam Sandler, America’s only full-time deaf illusionist.
Since its inception, the signature French flower market has raised more than $1 million; this year’s beneficiaries are Anti-Violence Partnership of Philadelphia, Mighty Writers, Rubye’s Kids Incorporated and the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf.
In addition to purchasing les jolies fleurs, learn about other notable charities striving to provide educational and recreational services for children in the Philadelphia area during the Children’s Resource Center, a recent addition to the market.
