Earlier this year, the Mural Arts Program announced plans for The Roots Mural, a brand new mural in the South Street district to honor Philadelphia’s continuing music legacy.
The mural, to be installed and dedicated later this summer, will tell the story of the beloved hip-hop band from past to present.
As part of Wawa Welcome America, Mural Arts invites the public to Community Paint Day on Tuesday, July 3 to help make this project a reality.
With the help of the public, the mural will be painted on Independence Mall on parachute cloth material before being placed at its permanent location at 6th and South Streets.
Help artists David Guinn, Ernel Martinez, Charles Barbin, Philly 360° Creative Ambassador Tatyana Fazlalizadeh, Willis Humphrey and Keir Johnston work on the actual Roots Mural.
Don’t miss your chance to be part of this large-scale mural, an honor described by Black Thought of The Roots as higher than receiving a Grammy.
All supplies will be provided and no experience is necessary to participate.
