Ommegang Brewery and World Cafe Live pair up for this year’s third annual Hop Chef Competition featuring some of Philly’s most respected and creative chefs going head-to-head to showcase their culinary talents, Tuesday, July 10.
Stepping into the kitchen for the food and brew mash-up is one helluva lineup featuring Joe Cicala of Le Virtu, Scott Schroeder of South Philly Taproom, Stateside’s George Sabatino, Jason Cichonski of Ela, Rittenhouse Tavern’s Nick Elmi and Jon Cichon of Lacroix.
Each chef is required to create and prepare two dishes using Ommegang beers to be judged on five pairing principles: simple pairing, incorporation, mimicking, story telling and experimental.
There’s already been a lot of joking and smack talk between the competitors via Twitter, stirring up the anticipation to see who will be moving forward to compete in New York for this year’s Hop Chef title at the Belgium Come to Cooperstown festival, the site of Ommegang’s brewery.
Grab a ticket online ($57.92 with fees) for the knife wielding/brew spiking showdown and a chance to sample great food, great beer and cheer on your favorite chef.
