One of the many things we adore about summer in the city is the chance to catch new and favorite flicks in various locations outdoors just as the sun goes down.
In addition to seeing free screenings at spots like Liberty Lands park in NoLibs, The Trocadero, Sugarhouse Casino and PhilaMOCA, the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation and Awesome Fest are partnering up to add Race Street Pier to the credits.
Beginning next Saturday, June 9 at 8 p.m., the Race Street Pier welcomes free weekly viewings of independent films from major festivals like Sundance and SXSW throughout the summer season on Awesome Fest’s brand new state-of-the-art, 30-foot outdoor airscreen appropriately named “The Awesome Screen.”
While this is the third year Awesome Fest continues to spread the summer entertainment throughout Philadelphia, it’s the first series curated by their new program director Eric Bresler, also the founder of Cinedelphia, the city’s online film and festival guide that launched in January 2011.
The lineup begins at nightfall with No Room For Rockstars: The Vans Warped Tour and continues with a full schedule that Bresler describes as “a fun and classy series.”
Bonus: In addition to the film fete, Race Street Pier hosts its Race Street Pier Promenade, Thursday, June 7, 6-9 p.m., a ticketed event hosting the likes of Philly’s favorite restaurants such as Alla Spina, Fish, Audrey Claire and Zahav.
