SugarHouse Casino To Host A Week-Long, Pop-Up Beach Party Along The Waterfront Starting This Saturday, June 30

Party on the sand at SugarHouse Casino’s pop-up beach oasis: SugarBeach.

Debuting this Saturday, June 30 and running daily programming on the waterfront through Sunday, July 8, SugarBeach lets you kick back with food and drink specials, beach games, giveaways, live music and more, all without leaving the city limits.

Complete with more than 100 tons of sand arranged across a 7,000 square-foot space, SugarBeach will include more than 30 live palm trees brought in from Florida, outdoor tiki bars and dozens of Adirondack chairs and umbrellas for lounging.

Admission to SugarBeach is free for to all guests 21 and over. Programming runs from 2-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 2 p.m.-1 a.m. Friday and Saturdays.

Hawaiian Kick-off Party — Saturday, June 30

Surf’s officially up at SugarBeach on Saturday, with a Hawaiian lei-cutting ceremony at 2 p.m.

Beach specials will include $2 shoyu chicken satay, $3 grilled shrimp and tropical fruit skewers, $4 pulled pork and grilled pineapple sandwiches. Later in the day sees a Miss SugarBeach Bikini Contest hosted by Steve Morrison and Marisa Magnatta from WMMR’s Preston and Steve Show.

Once the sun sets, things heat up with an authentic Hawaiian luau featuring hula dancers and dance lessons, fire-eaters and a drum band. Additionally, guests are invited to take a seat on The Waterfront at SugarHouse for the best view of the Penn’s Landing fireworks show at 10 p.m. The Funkybone band plays pop and rock all the way until 1 a.m.

Sand & Sea Day — Sunday, July 1

Reggae bands will play throughout the day and guests can enjoy a beach menu including specialties from Jose Garces’ popular Guapos Tacos Truck. You’re also invited to watch the creations of an expert sand sculptor take shape throughout the day.

The Delaware River will then roar with two shows from eight-time world freestyle Jet Ski champion, Eric Malone, along with Ramboo Rosie and Typhoon Tommy.

Beach Kites & Karaoke — Monday, July 2

Chase away the Monday blues by watching a live, DJed kite show by Sky Festival, 3-5 p.m. Free kites to the first 500 guests! Food specials all day include $2 corn dogs and pretzel dogs, $3 Italian sausage, $2 funnel cake fries and more.

Additionally, SugarHouse will host Bobby Lynch Trivia and Karaoke from 5-9 p.m. In 2012, Bobby Lynch exploded onto the East Coast music scene, performing an unprecedented 340 shows in a single year.

Shark Night — Tuesday, July 3

On Tuesday, July 3, SugarHouse and the Awesome Fest will host an 8:30 p.m. outdoor showing of the summer movie classic, Jaws, on an inflatable movie screen as part of the SugarBeach Shark Night. The movie screening will feature the Blu-ray version of the movie, which won’t be released to the public until August.

Prior to the showing, Big Daddy Graham Quizzo will host beach trivia from 5-6:30 p.m. And throughout the day, guests are invited to take advantage of Shark Night specials including deals on LandShark lager, $5 chum buckets (steamers) and $3 popcorn crab claws. Rock out to Stellar Mojo after the movie from 10:30 p.m.-1 a.m.

Made in America Celebration — Wednesday, July 4

Spend Independence Day on SugarBeach, which is also Philly legend Jerry Blavat’s birthday. The Geator with the Heater will host an “American Bandstand” Birthday Celebration. He’ll lead and judge a Bandstand-inspired dance contest starting at 6 p.m. Guests will receive birthday swag and cake.

Earlier in the afternoon, enjoy “Art in Action” with Brian Olsen, who uses his fingertips, palms, elbows and up to three brushes in each hand to paint portraits of famous people. There will be live music until 10 p.m.

“Out” on the River — Thursday, July 5

“Sandy Beach,” a well-known celebrity in the local LGBT community, will host “Out” on the River on July 5. Leading up to the crowning of Miss’d SugarHouse, special events will include a game of rainbow Twister on an inflatable 12-foot-square board, beach blanket bingo, a drag hula hoop contest and an Annette & Frankie look-alike contest.

Guests can also enjoy a $5 fried handbag, which includes popcorn shrimp, boneless wings and fries.

Dance Around the World — Friday, July 6

July 6 features live music and free salsa lessons, followed by international cuisine, including $2 steamed empanadas and $4 jerk chicken sandwiches. There’s a Charity Dunk Tank from 304 p.m., and the party goes until 1 a.m.

Parrot Head Party — Saturday, July 7

Celebrate all things Jimmy Buffett on Saturday, July 7. Enjoy cheeseburgers for $4, and enter the evening eating contest for a chance to win two tickets to a Jimmy Buffett concert later this summer. The Jimmy Buffett Tribute Band plays from 9 p.m.-1 a.m.

SugarBeach Fashion Show — Sunday, July 8

To conclude the week of celebrations, SugarHouse is hosting its first-ever fashion show on SugarBeach, presented by Macy’s and preceded by a charity brunch. Tickets are $25 in advance, and all proceeds benefit charity. Tickets include brunch, gift bag with $10 free slot play, chance to win a fragrance gift basket from Macy’s and access to prime fashion show seating. A Beach Boy Cover Band plays from 5-9 p.m.

That’s a lot, huh? There’s one more thing: by attending SugarBeach events, you’ll be entered to win up to $20,000 free play at SugarHouse Casino, a tropical escape to CAncun or a 2012 Yamaha VXS WaveRunner!
