With the 2012 Vendy Awards approaching next Saturday, July 28 in University City, the nominations have been counted to reveal the finalists competing to be named this year’s top curbside chef in the People’s Choice, Dessert and Vendy Cup award categories.

Tickets are still available, and we suggest you grab one because the lineup features a mix of some of Philadelphia’s most talented, hardworking and diverse food vendors slinging fare and representing our city well.

This year’s eventgoers will have the opportunity to indulge in savory plates from Yumtown serving seasonal dishes with hints of Southern, Mexican and Asian influence; Foo Truck specializing in Asian hand-held bites cleverly named Foowiches; The King of Falafel returning for a second helping with their healthy Middle Eastern cuisine; Delicias offering Venezuelan fare; The Smoke Truck slinging traditional Southern BBQ; Vernalicious dishing creative comfort food; Lil Dan’s Gourmet prepping Italian and American grub and Tacos Don Memo rolling up tacos and burritos al pastor style.

And if that’s not reason enough to put a ticket in your hand, the competition will once again welcome a battle between the city’s favorable dessert finalists with the likes of Lil Pop Shop delivering unique popsicle flavor combinations such as goat cheese with black raspberries and honey; Little Baby’s Ice Cream offering more frozen treat varieties with their hand-made ice cream and non-dairy frozen desserts; Sugar Philly once again showcasing sweets and Sweet Box is making another appearance hoping to claim the title once again for Best Dessert Award with their popular cupcakes.

The culinary showdown starts at 3 p.m. at The Lot on 39th and Market Streets.

Reminder: each ticket purchased is a tax deductible donation as the Vendy Awards serve as a fundraiser for The Food Trust.
