The 2012 Philadelphia Vendy Awards wrapped up another successful event over the weekend with The Smoke Truck, a traditional southern BBQ operation owned by Mark Coates formerly of Bebe’s BBQ, claiming the votes for this year’s Vendy Cup winner.

Of the other dozen finalists, People’s Choice belonged to Verna Swerdlow and David Jurkofsky of Vernalicious, and the ‘Lil Pop Shop gang took home the title for Dessert with their specialty popsicles. Congrats!

But, the winners aren’t done celebrating just yet. In fact, the three mobile operations from this year’s event as well as last year’s are getting together to take part in the first ever Winners’ Oval Event at Eakins Oval, the area of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway located in front of the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

The event, hosted by the Fairmount Park Conservancy, Philadelphia Parks and Recreation and the Street Vendor Project, invites food lovers to enjoy tastes from some of our city’s finest curbed chefs during the outdoor evening picnic, Thursday, August 2, 6-9 p.m.

The pay-as-you-go event will roll in 2011 Vendy Cup Winner Gigi & Big R’s, Sweet Box, Cucina Zapata as well as supply brews from Sixpoint, live music and activities.

A great way to revisit your favorite mobile food operations in one setting, Winners’ Oval also serves as an opportunity to get a sampling of what you may have missed at the past two Vendy Awards.
