PHS Pop-Up Garden Introduces The Tablecloth Initiative, Inviting Visitors To Help Create A Community Tablecloth And Stop Urban Hunger

Walking down Walnut Street around Rittenhouse Square might surprise you this summer.

Next to the great hotels, restaurants and shops, you might find yourself in a little green oasis, with a long table and brightly colored chairs fit for the Mad Hatter’s tea party.

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Pop-Up Garden on 19th and Walnut Streets has been the host of many exciting programs this summer, including gardening classes, story hours and community dinners.

And now the Pop-Up Garden is introducing the Tablecloth Initiative to celebrate the garden’s theme of bringing everyone to the table.

PHS will create a tablecloth featuring a patchwork of visitors’ photographs. When you visit the garden, take a picture or two and upload them online.

For a one-time $5 donation to City Harvest, your image will be featured on the tablecloth, which will debut on closing day of the garden and again at the 2013 Philadelphia International Flower Show! Very cool.
