REV Theatre Company (based both in New York and now in Philadelphia) is presenting two free outdoor performances of William Shakespeare’s comedic fantasy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, at 6 p.m. on July 14 and 4 p.m. on July 15, in the vacant lot next to the Broad Street Ministry.
Performed under an authentic midsummer night’s sky, the free production is part of REV Theatre’s commitment to introduce new audiences to classical theatre.
Shakespeare’s story of love-struck mortals, stage-struck mechanicals and feuding fairies who all collide one fateful night in a magical forest is the perfect family-friendly intro to the Bard. And REV’s contemporary, updated production thoroughly entertains by blending outrageously colorful costumes of urban street chic and a glam-rock Puck, athletic staging and an incorporation of musical numbers from the 1930s to the ‘60s.
Be sure to bring a blanket or lawn chairs. Reservations are not necessary. Rain dates are July 21 and 22.
