With University City’s recent trend of creating pop-up mini parks using activated parking spaces, the “parklet” concept has expanded to other Philly neighborhoods.

This fall, residents and visitors of the Logan neighborhood, located in North Philadelphia, will have a gathering space of their own with the Logan Parklet, scheduled to open early next month in front of the Logan Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia.

The space presents a unique opportunity to create a location in Logan that celebrates human interaction and encourages positive street activity.

The parklet was designed by members of the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Organization of Minority Architects (PhilaNOMA), bringing you “work” with cafe tables, “play” with a small stage doubled as a chalkboard palette and “lounge” with flexible seating.

The Logan Parklet already has some great fall activities planned, including “Movies @ the Parklet!” every Friday in September, featuring films based on books offered at the Free Library. Construction is set to begin on August 20.

Plus, the Logan Parklet has already been selected as part of the Mayor Office of Transportation Parklet Pilot Program.

Help make the parklet a great success through Logan CDC’s Kickstarter project “Let’s Build the Logan Parklet!”
