Reading Terminal Market is getting ready to host the 23rd annual Pennsylvania Dutch Festival, where all things homemade, handcrafted and sure-to-be delicious are served and sold.
The free event, which takes place Thursday, August 9 through Saturday, August 11 will set up shop in the market’s center court for the first two days and then make moves outdoors taking over Arch Street for a country block party in the city, Saturday.
While images of fudge, brittle, pot roast and donuts can’t help but dance in our heads, check out our helpful guide for navigating the festival.
The Food
Surrounded by long traditions and regional bites, feast on the market’s abundant selection of Pennsylvania Dutch vendors dishing out potpies, corn fritters, soft pretzels, scrapple, funnel cake, shoofly pies, jams and birch beer. All homemade and all delicious, the food is the festival’s biggest draw each year.
The Crafts
The festival is a great way to browse and purchase fine quality craftsmanship, handmade quilts, rugs, hex symbols, wooden furniture and toys, which all make for unique gifts and additions to your home. What’s more, it’s a fun way to engage with the vendors and a learn a thing or two about where and how the products are made.
The Block Party
The Pennsylvania Dutch Festival will take place indoors for the majority of the three-day span, but on Saturday the event lets loose onto Arch Street for an all-day country affair complete with live bluegrass music, Amish buggy rides, petting zoos and horse-drawn wagon rides.
And, no need to worry about parking your own mode of transportation, be it hooves, wagon or engine; $4 parking is available during the festival at the Convention Center garage at 11th and Arch Streets as well as at the Parkway Garage on 12th and Filbert Streets.
Join us at the end of the day on August 11, after your festival fulfillment, at Rittenhouse Square for our Moonlit Movie event! Details here.
