This past Saturday night, August 11, Uwishunu hosted our first-ever Moonlit Movie Screening in Rittenhouse Square, featuring Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris.
It was awesome to see a crowd of 500+ gathered on the lawn before the event; thank you so much to everyone who came out. Despite some weather-related technical difficulties, and a little mid-movie rain, the night was a success, thanks to our fabulous partners and, most especially, you guys.
Below, we’ve got a photo recap of the night, with snapshots of all of the event’s major elements: free Shake Shack custard at the PHS Pop-Up Garden (open late specially for the event!); hot dogs, popcorn and lemonade from the decked-out Rouge on 18th Street; and, of course, the main event, the screening of Midnight in Paris.
This event is definitely something we want to try and do again in the future. (Hopefully with an even bigger screen and more speakers…) So let us know in the comments where you think we should host another Moonlit Movie Screening, and what movie it should feature!
And thanks again so much for coming out, picnicking and then sticking it out with us through the less than cooperative weather. We literally could not have done it without you.

Before the feature presentation began, we screened our Philly 101 videos as trailers, giving audience members a visual taste of Philadelphia. (Photo by Dave Tavani for GPTMC)
Check out more photos below.

The PHS Pop-Up Garden opened up from 6-9 p.m for special evening hours in honor of the movie. Shake Shack set up shop to dish out free frozen custard to the masses. And we mean masses. (Photo by Dave Tavani for GPTMC)

Moviegoers picked up their Shake Shack custard, then headed east to settle in at Rittenhouse Square for the rest of the evening. (Photo by Dave Tavani for GPTMC)

Over on 18th Street across from Rittenhouse Square, Rouge set up an awesome vintage movie snacks booth, giving away free popcorn and vending lemonade and hot dogs. (Photo by Dave Tavani for GPTMC)

This is what it's all about. Pre-movie picnickers gathered on the Rittenhouse Square lawn to stake out a spot and enjoy a twilight alfresco dinner. (Photo by Dave Tavani for GPTMC)

As night fell, the crowds reached 500 strong, covering the entire lawn on the 18th Street side of the square. (Photo by Dave Tavani for GPTMC)
A huge thanks to our partners: Friends of Rittenhouse Square, Philadelphia Film Society, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and Shake Shack, plus Rouge and the Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Department.
Again, let us know in the comments where you think we should host another Moonlit Movie Screening, and what movie it should feature!
