Tonight, Temple And Villanova Kick Off The College Football Season In Philadelphia With The Mayor’s Cup Game At Lincoln Financial Field
College football in Philly officially kicks off tonight, August 31, when Temple and Villanova square off in the 4th Annual Mayor’s Cup at Lincoln Financial Field.
This year’s game is the last scheduled matchup between the two teams for a while, marking the end – at least, temporarily – of the current Mayor’s Cup format. Temple has won the last two duels against Nova, though the Wildcats have a 16-14-2 all-time record against the Owls.
The Owls are enter the season as newly minted members of the Big East conference and are returning from a successful season that saw them take home a bowl win. The perennially solid Villanova team is attempting to rebound from a tough 2011. And what better way to start than with a matchup against a crosstown rival?
While we can’t predict who will win, one thing we know for sure is that the Linc will be rocking with fans of both teams eager to get a first look at the two schools.
Below, check out a trailer for the 2012 Temple Owls football season.
