South Street’s authentic German beer hall Brauhaus Schmitz is celebrating Oktoberfest with six days of beer-centric festivities starting Monday, September 24 and culminating with the annual Oktoberfest Block Party on Saturday, September 29.
A quick rundown of the week’s events leading up to the street fest:
• Monday, September 24: Oktoberfest Flight Night, with 10 Oktoberfest beers paired with a five-course dinner
• Tuesday, September 25: German Beer Quizzo
• Wednesday, September 26: Spaten/Franziskaner Party
• Thursday, September 27: Bratwurst eating contest
• Friday, September 28: Kick the Keg lottery
The real headliner of the week-long celebration is the Oktoberfest Block Party on Saturday, September 29. It’s newly expanded with new sponsors (PhillyBeerScene and PNC), making it the largest Brahaus Schmitz Oktoberfest yet.
Rain or shine, the block party will run from noon-8 p.m., shutting down the 700 block of South Street with all manner of merriment.
A few elements to take note of: pig roast, live bands, endless German beer, an exclusively brewed Feistbier from Traunstein and a brand new VIP Oktoberfest Package that is almost as good as flying non-stop to Munich.
The VIP package (tickets are extremely limited, so act fast!) includes: VIP Pass in and Out of the VIP Brauer Bund, full wait staff and bar staff with five private bathrooms, complimentary appetizers, six tickets good for beer from the VIP list or for food items, a commemorative beer stein and T-shirt and more. To reserve, call (267) 909-8814.
It’s going to be huge. Don’t miss it. For more on Oktoberfest in Philadelphia, check out our roundup.
