Open Air begins its three-week run tonight, with an action-packed opening night celebration, that’s going to include food trucks, special guests, a ceremonial countdown and more.

One of the most important decisions to make in your night and weekend planning over the next few weeks is where to watch Open Air.

Luckily, we’ve got you completely covered in that endeavor, with several “places to watch” guides: viewing points along and nearby the Parkway, restaurants nearby and even hotels offering awesome views from their guest rooms.

And now, we’re going to throw our own hat in the ring with one more suggestion for a great place to watch. We’ve teamed up with the Philadelphia Museum of Art to bring back their popular “Martinis on the Portico” feature to this week’s edition of their ever-popular Art After 5 event. And we’re turning it into an unofficial “Open Air” viewing party of sorts. Get a discount on museum admission; grab a drink; check out the art; listen to some great music; and then cap it off by enjoying one of the best views of Open Air anywhere in the city right from the museum’s portico.

This Friday evening, September 21, join Team Uwishunu at the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s super popular “Art After 5″ weekly Friday evening happy hour, which runs from 5-8:45 p.m. See full event rundown below.

Art After 5

Inside the museum, the Great Stair Hall is transformed into an intimate cabaret for Art After 5 performances. There will be live jazz and blues music courtesy of West Philadelphia native Denise King from 5-8:45 p.m., plus a cash bar with delicious cocktails and appetizers catered by Starr Events. You can either relax at a table with waiter service or stop by the bar, which is set up to the right of the grand staircase inside the museum, directly opposite the ticketing area. And during Art After 5, you can wander through and explore the museum’s world-renowned art galleries, wine glass in hand.

The Return of “Martinis on the Portico”

During the warm months, usually May to early September, “Art After 5″ moves outdoors for a special spring and summer spin called “Martinis on the Portico.” That had ended for the year, but thanks to the awesome Art Museum staff, they’ll be bringing it back for one more night. So you’ll be able to enjoy drinks and snacks outside on the Philadelphia Museum of Art portico this Friday, affording you access to what is inarguably one of the best spots in the city from which to watch Open Air.

Unofficial Open Air Viewing Party

Open Air begins at 8 p.m., so from 8-8:45 p.m., join us outdoors on the portico with your drink and take a seat to be dazzled by the 24 powerful robotic searchlights tracing patterns in the night sky above the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

Special Discount for Uwishunu Readers

The Philadelphia Museum of Art is very graciously extending a special discount to Uwishunu readers for the event. Visitors to Art After 5 on Friday, September 21 who mention “Uwishunu” when they purchase their museum admission at the main entrance will get $2 off the general admission price of $20. That’s $18 for 3 hours and 45 minutes of after-hours gallery access, live music and quality time with Team Uwishunu. Not to mention an unbeatable view of night two of Open Air.
