The super popular fried chicken and donuts shop Federal Donuts, co-owned by Michael Solomonov, restaurateur Steven Cook, coffee aficionados Thomas Henneman and Bob Logue and food-and-drink expert Felicia D’Ambrosio, is expanding to Center City.
This Wednesday, October 3 at 7 a.m., Federal Donuts will open its second location at 1632 Sansom Street. We. Cannot. Wait.
The innovative shop has been garnering critical acclaim from across the culinary world; it was one of the reasons Saveur called Philly “the East Coast’s most exciting emerging food town” and got the star treatment in the hallowed Dining section of the New York Times.
Twenty-five thousand orders of chicken later, Federal Donuts is opening a second spot.
The new location, much more accessible to Center City office workers and the Rittenhouse Square lunch crowd, will offer totally new flavors from the original location at 1219 S. 2nd Street in Pennsport, along with the exceptional fresh brewed coffee Federal Donuts lovers have come to expect.
For the donuts, think custom seasoned sugar blends like Turkish Mocha, Strawberry-Fennel, Vanilla Spice, Mint Chocolate Cookie, Lemon Bar, Maple Bacon, Green Tea-Sesame, Spicy PB&J and Butter Pecan.
For the birds, order your chicken glazed with flavors such as Passionfruit Teriyaki and Dill Pickle; or seasoned, dusted with Federal Blend, Shabazzi or Cowboy Coffe salts.
Federal Donuts Center City will serve seven days a week from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Fried chicken service begins everyday at 11 a.m. and lasts through availability.
The Sansom Street location gives the Federal Donuts team the capacity to produce three times the amount of donuts and chicken than at the original location, so they should have less of their legendary within-hours sell-outs. But you can still follow them on Twitter to keep apprised of daily supply.
It’s always great to see such success from homegrown Philadelphia ventures. Next up: Federal Donuts home delivery? A blogger can dream.
