What better way to encourage literacy than to watch local celebrities read Dr. Seuss books at rapid speeds?
On Thursday, October 11, First Book Philadelphia will be holding its second annual “Speed Read” festival at the Union League.
Listen to some of Philadelphia’s finest compete to be the fastest Dr. Seuss reader. Pennsylvania State Treasurer Rob McCord will emcee the event and WMGK-FM mid-day host Debbi Calton will be the event’s host.
Participating celebrities include Lu Ann Cahn, reporter for NBC 10; Anne Ewers, CEO of The Kimmel Center; Fran Dunphy, coach of Temple’s award-winning Men’s Basketball team; actor David Morse, who can be seen in Academy Award-nominated The Green Mile; actor Terrence Howard from Crash and Hustle & Flow; Alicia Vitarelli, anchor on 6 ABC; and many other local talents.
First Book Philadelphia is a non-profit organization whose goal is to help children in need start a life of literacy by buying them their first book. “Speed Read” will serve as a fundraiser for the cause and will promote literacy awareness.
