SoMos, A Free Dance And Multimedia Performance Outdoors In El Barrio, Set For This Friday, October 12

All the world’s a stage, including a city parking lot, where Merián Soto presents SoMoS, a dance and multimedia event happening in North Philadelphia, Friday, October 12.
The final installment of the acclaimed “branch dance” series, SoMoS is an immersive experience brought to life by natural images, sound and movement.
Featuring six dancers, geodesic performance spaces, quadrophonic soundscapes and large video projections, the event takes up a full city block. It’s all part of Taller Puertorriqueño’s free performance series, Café Under the Stars: Spotlighting The Arts in El Barrio.
During the performance, you’re welcome to amble about the area however you wish. Get up close to dancers manipulating large branches, or stand outside the geodesic tents to see shadows cast by their movement as well as view artful projections of the natural world.
Performances are simultaneous, in various places, and you determine your personal sensory experience, just as you might when wandering about the great outdoors to explore what interests you.
All four seasons are represented. It will be quite a sight to see this happen outdoors, with the night sky as a backdrop. There are two shows; you’re even allowed to attend both, for a double dose of communing with nature.
