Philadelphia’s only outdoor public ice rink — at least until Dilworth Plaza reopens — is back for the 2012 season starting Friday, November 23.

The Blue Cross RiverRink at Penn’s Landing is a Philadelphia wintertime tradition in its 19th season.

Featuring an outdoor Olympic size rink overlooking the Delaware River and an indoor heated facility with a snack bar, game room and more, the Blue Cross RiverRink offers skating session hours Monday to Thursday evenings from 6–9 p.m.; Fridays from 1:30-5:30 p.m. (brand new Friday afternoon session!), 6–8 p.m., 8:30–10:30 p.m., and 11 p.m –1 a.m.; Saturday from 12:30–2:30 p.m., 3– 5:30 p.m., 6–8 p.m., 8:30–10:30 p.m., and 11 p.m.–1 a.m.; and Sunday from 12:30–2:30 p.m., 3– 5:30 p.m., 6–9 p.m.

Opening Day, Friday November 23, will have two special additional afternoon skate sessions from noon-2:30 p.m. and 3-5:30 p.m. There will also be a free Q102 Jingle Ball Preview concert featuring Megan & Liz and hosted by Maxwell from Q102.

In fact, DJs keep the party happening every Friday and Saturday night from 9 p.m.-midnight.

Throughout the RiverRink season, you can take private ice skating lessons (complete a skating lesson application online), plan a group party or take part in fun events like Skate with Santa and His Friends, Sunday December 9; Daddy Daughter Skate, Thursday, January 31; or Sweetheart Skate, Thursday February 14.

Skating admission is extremely affordable at $9; skate rental is available for $4. Convenient parking is also available on site for only $12.

New for 2012-2013: you’ll be able to buy tickets to the RiverRink in advance online. The ticket link will be live on the RiverRink site starting this Friday, November 16.

Note: there are special hours for holidays, including Christmas Eve & Day, New Year’s Eve & Day, Martin Luther King Day and President’s Day; info here.
