The next tree lighting in Philadelphia is taking place tonight in Love Park at 5 p.m.

Lisa Nutter, Philadelphia’s First Lady, will do the honors of illuminating the holiday trees all around Love Park, including the official City Hall Christmas tree, a 38-foot LED tree boasting thousands of colorful lights.

She’ll be accompanied by a fun cast of characters, including Santa, half a dozen musical acts, Gandalf and Legolas from the world of the new Hobbit film, the Sixers Dream Team and Flight Squad, plus dignitaries and several pageant winners.

Bonus: Kraft will be giving out free boxes of mac and cheese, wrapping paper and T-shirts from 3 p.m. through the ceremonies. And as the switch is thrown to illuminate the tree at about 6 p.m., glow sticks will be given to the crowd to add to the spectacle.

The event is the perfect opportunity to visit Philadelphia’s Christmas Village set up in Love Park. Browse through hundreds of Christmas ornaments, homemade gifts and jewelry from 60 vendors and stick around for a drink and snack from any of the food and beverage stands.
