When it comes to split personalities few are more famous than those portrayed in Jekyll & Hyde, the hit musical that rings out the year in thrilling fashion at the Forrest Theatre, December 26-30.
This popular production is performed with tremendous theatrical flair, especially by the two leads, American Idol finalist and Tony Award nominee Constantine Maroulis who plays the titular Jekyll and Hyde, and R & B superstar Deborah Cox, in the role of Lucy, a hooker with a heart of gold.
Inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic gothic novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the show tells the intriguing tale of a man who embodies the extremes of both good and evil in 19th century London, England.
Dr. Henry Jekyll is a scientist who is engaged to the lovely and unsuspecting Emma. His alter ego, Mr. Edward Hyde, is a violent murderer, whose very presence is the result of a well-meaning laboratory experiment gone horribly wrong. Once the good doctor discovers the errors of his ways he strives to suppress his dark side, but the inner demon is highly ferocious.
This musical interpretation of the chilling story is stylish and sexy. It enjoyed a successful four-year run on Broadway before becoming an international sensation, and we can expect sparks to fly at the Forrest Theatre.
