Happy Hanukkah! Celebrate the holiday in Rittenhouse Square, when the menorah will be lit. (Photo courtesy Friends of Rittenhouse Square)
If you’ve walked through Rittenhouse Square this week, you’ll notice the park’s beautifully illuminated landscape and giant colorful Christmas tree.
But the lighting in Rittenhouse Square hasn’t yet reached its peak; the annual lighting of the menorah is set for this Sunday, December 9.
At 5:30 p.m. as dusk settles over the park, prayers will be sung and the first candle will be lit on one of the city’s largest menorahs.
Stick around afterwards to grab dinner or drinks at any of the excellent restaurants rimming the square, from Parc to Rouge to Twenty Manning Grill.
Note that earlier in the day, the Ethical Society on Rittenhouse Square will host a children’s educational fitness program called “Let’s Play Today!” featuring doughnuts, chocolate gelt and dreidels. That’s at 4:30 p.m. and admission is $5 ($20 for a family).
