It’s no secret that Philadelphia loves First Friday.
Neighborhoods all over the city are becoming active participants in the monthly event, offering extended store and art gallery hours, special sales, street performances and drink specials.
A great option for celebrating January’s First Friday?
The folks at the Barnes Foundation have prepared a night of art, music and booze for their First Friday event on Friday, January 4 from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
Here’s a look at the festivities planned:
• Live music: 6-8 p.m. Peter Tang’s Chinese Ensemble will be performing compositions that pay homage to the music of ancient China. The musicians will use age-old Chinese instruments to honor the music that was played thousands and thousands of years ago.
• Sake tasting: 7:30-8:30 p.m. Barnes artist, teacher and Philly 101 star John Gatti will be teaching guests about the wide assortment of sake types that are unknown to most. Gatti will present sake flavors with complimentary masterworks at the Barnes. Tickets are $30 for members, $40 for non-members.
• Intellectual discussion: 5:30-6:30 p.m. President and executive director of the Barnes Foundation and Chinese art connoisseur, Derek Gillman, will be discussing the collection of Chinese art by the Western World during Albert Barnes’ time. Tickets are $12 members, $15 for non-members.
• After-hours gallery access: All First Friday ticket holders will have access to the Barnes Foundation’s famous art galleries which will remain open until the event comes to an end.
Wells Fargo First Friday tickets are $10 apiece for non-members and free for members. Guests can either reserve their ticket to guarantee a spot at this popular event or purchase one the day of.
