The Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA) kicks off next week, on March 28, and it’s officially time to get psyched for the bonanza of arts and cultural events coming our way.
Today, catch a festive pop-up parade and get ready for the city to be inundated with events surrounding PIFA and its theme, If You Had a Time Machine.
After noon, look out for costumed characters from throughout time (think George Washington and Marilyn Monroe) at locations across the city including Reading Terminal Market, Independence Mall and 30th Street Station. Make sure to give a warm welcome to Betsy Ross and Cleopatra!
At 1:30, head to Broad Street to catch a pop-up parade with a cast of historic characters marching down the Avenue of the Arts from the courtyard of City Hall to the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.
This is only the first of fun happenings, as the month-long citywide festival runs March 28-April 27 and is set to feature more than 50 projects and daily events. For tickets and a full list of PIFA events, visit www.pifa.org.
