As the spring season approaches, the hugely popular City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program tours are launching upgraded excursions for the 2013 season, offering great opportunities to take in some of the more than 3,600 murals in the city.
With a number of new tours like Speciality Trolley Tours, Mural Arts Masterpieces and Mural Arts New Works slated to begin soon, engaging journeys will be available throughout the spring and summer.
Speciality trolley tours are set to occur one Saturday per month throughout the spring, and will feature a different subject each month. During Jazz Appreciation Month, on Saturday, April 20, from 10 a.m. to noon, a music and jazz trolley tour will depart from the African American Museum in Philadelphia. The tour will feature murals that focus on music and musicians.
In celebration of Mother’s Day, May 12, Mural Arts hosts a Mother’s Day mural and meal trolley tour. On Saturday, May 11 beginning at 10 a.m. check out the special tour followed by brunch at one of Philadelphia’s fine establishments.
Show Dad some love, too, with the Father’s Day sports murals trolley tour on Saturday, June 15. The tour features murals of Jackie Robinson, Philadelphia Stars Negro League, The Legendary Blue Horizon and more.
On the second weekend of each month, check out the Mural Arts Masterpieces tour and on the fourth weekend of each month see Mural Arts New Works. Both are part of Mural Arts’ trolley tours which bring guests through often-unexplored Philadelphia neighborhoods. The tours leave from Mural Arts at the Gallery.
Finally, the always-in-demand Mural Mile Walking Tour now leaves from the Independence Visitor Center in addition to Mural Arts at the Gallery, offering visitors convenient departure points to make touring the City of Murals a breeze all season long.
