Philadelphia’s park system is amazing and one of the city’s greatest assets… Philadelphia has more than 10,000 (!) acres of open space including forest, trails, streams, and 75 neighborhood playgrounds spread across the city. But it’s an asset that requires a lot of care and attention — it’s a lot of park space and open space to enjoy; but it’s also a lot to take care of..
Enter Philadelphia’s second annual “Love Your Park Week,” taking place May 11-18 and presented by Philadelphia Parks and Recreation and the Fairmount Park Conservancy.
The week of greening and cleaning and other park festivities begins on Saturday, May 11 with the Love Your Park Service Day and Kick Off. On May 11, 100 parks around the city host clean up events, mulching events and tree planting and gardening events at varying times in the morning and early afternoon.
Find first-day cleanup events at your local park and sign up to volunteer right here.
Beyond the service day and kick off, parks from South Philadelphia to Northeast Philadelphia host events all week long — from May 11 through 18.
Popular spring festivals hosted by our most loved parks and other great events make up the happenings throughout the week.
Both Saturday, May 11 and Saturday, May 18 are doozies; the Love Your Park events on these two days are nearly endless.
May 11 marks the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta, Fitler Square Spring Fair, Rittenhouse Square Fine Craft Fair, Sister Cities Park International Festival and much more. May 18 marks the Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival, Plant Your Summer Garden Workshop at Hunting Park, Penn Treaty Park Flea Market and much more.
Each weekday also hosts its fair share of events as well. Highlights include The Porch Beer Garden, the annual Evening in Franklin Square, Picnic in the Park at Cedar Park and Friends of Mifflin Square Park Celebration.
The full list of events is available here.
Tried and true park-lovers are encouraged to enter the Love Your Park Week Show Us Your Love Contest.
