Part circus arts, part contemporary dance and all fantastic, Invisible River uses the Schuylkill River and Strawberry Mansion Bridge as the backdrop for a fanciful, free public aerial dance and music concert in Fairmount Park this Sunday, June 23.
Progressive performing arts group Alie & the Brigade leads the production, which includes a full company of performers.
Audiences can expect the stage to be set in a riverside parking lot, decked out in a colorful set of wild animal sculptures by artists from the cultural arts program at Philadelphia Developmental Disabilities Corporation.
The show itself includes nine dancing singers performing a choral composition by Elliott Harvey of a stick and a stone, with aerial artists in the distance, dancing a pas de deux suspended from the Strawberry Mansion Bridge.
For the grand finale, the aerialists descend into the river and swim to shore.
After the performance and an artist talk by Alie Vidich, who’s ambition is to to create an annual Schuylkill River performing arts festival, the celebration of summer continues with a DJ dance party, snacks by Cosmic Café, the official vendor of Fairmount Park, and treats by Little Baby’s Ice Cream.
The performance takes place here, in the parking lot next to the Strawberry Mansion Bridge with audience parking available nearby at 2200 Kelly Drive.
After a successful first show last week, this weekend’s performance ought to see additional attendees.
The event is free and open to the public, but an early arrival will secure prime viewing of what’s sure to be an entrancing sight.
