America’s birthday bash just keeps on getting bigger.
Philadelphia already celebrates Independence Day in a big way, with the Wawa Welcome America festival, parade and free blowout concert, the Philly 4th of July Jam headlined by The Roots.
Now on July 3, The Roots and friends turn the dial way up by kicking off the 4th of July Jam early with three more events to add to your calendar.
At 2 p.m. on July 3, head to Northern Liberties’ Piazza at Schmidt’s for a just-announced free alfresco event, The City Festival. This new blockbuster fest is set to feature 10 acts of live music spanning pop, R&B, hip-hop, rock and more, with headliner GoGo Morrow.
After the afternoon’s festivities, true Roots fans will head to South Street to catch Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson of The Roots and D’Angelo performing as Brothers in Arms at the Theatre of the Living Arts. The doors open at 10:30 p.m. and tickets will be on sale online prior to one hour before door time. After that tickets available at box office window.
If you’re still up for more after the concert, head over to Midtown Village club Voyeur to dance until the wee hours with Philly Sound Konnoisseurs (PSK), a hot international DJ event that’s seen past performances by DJs like Diplo, J Rocc, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Rich Medina and DJ Phish. PSK has definitely sold out in the past, so club goers should get there early.
For the complete lineup of performers to take the stage during The City Festival and more details on all the July 3 happenings, check over with our friends at Philly 360° here.
And finally on July 4, the citywide party moves over to the Parkway with one of the largest free outdoor concerts in the country — the Philly 4th of July Jam — hosted by Kevin Hart and headlined by none other than The Roots, alongside John Mayer, J. Cole, Grace Potter, Jill Scott, Ne-Yo and Demi Lovato.
Stay tuned for more as the holiday nears.
This is going to be one major birthday party!
