This Friday is the official first day of summer, and what better way to celebrate than with an excellent outdoor event.

Free film screenings and food truck fare join forces this Friday, June 21, at Mt. Airy’s first Moonlight Movies and Dining Under The Stars event of the summer.

Bring out your lawn chairs and picnic blankets to Lovett Library Park for a free screening of Life of Pi, a recent box office hit. The film begins at 8:30 p.m.

Before the movie, local restuarnat Zea May’s Kitchen will be on hand to provide Native American-inspired eats and a large supply of vegetarian and vegan fare. Enjoy your fair share of legumes, bison, empanadas and a variety of soup.

For a sweet snack, Little Baby’s Ice Cream is slated to provide its deliciously off-the-wall dairy and non-dairy frozen treats.

The food trucks serve hungry patrons from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The summer series continues through Friday, August 16. Films range in type from classic films to recent blockbusters, consult the film schedule here and below to catch your favorite summer flick.

Each screening sees a rotation of food trucks, so eats of all sort can be sampled.

In the case of rain, head to the Mt. Airy Presbyterian Church for an indoor screening.
