Awesome Fest kicks off its summer-long festival with rock and roll tonight at The Troc. (Image courtesy Awesome Fest)
This summer, the Awesome Fest film and music festival brings the ’80s back to Philadelphia in a big way with a 10-week fest featuring performances and outdoor movie screenings at mostly outdoor venues across the city.
Tonight, the festival gets underway with an opening night bash and performance by The Psychedelic Furs at the Trocadero Theatre at 8 p.m.
Best known for producing the title track of John Hughes’ Pretty in Pink, the Furs were founded during the New Wave era of 1977 England and have rocked together for more than three decades.
In the coming weeks, more than 50 outdoor movie screenings, live music performances and special events are on the calendar.
The outdoor movie screenings are all free (!!!) and located in parks across the city.
Plus, directors, filmmakers and producers from a number of the films will be in attendance throughout the fest.

Stay tuned for more on this summer-long festival.
