The weekend is almost upon us, Philadelphia, and that’s reason enough to celebrate one night early.

This evening there are tons of great events on the roster, so be sure to get out and spend this summer night doing something fun. Between concerts, free alfresco movie screenings and a pre-Bastille Day bar crawl, your evening plans are made.

Chaka Khan and Ledisi at The Dell Music Center: Fairmount Park’s Dell Music Center, a giant open-air concert venue brings Chaka Khan, a 10-time Grammy-award winning musician, to center stage tonight for the first performance of its Essence of Entertainment summer concert series. Tonight’s concert also promises a performance by Ledisi, a Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter who has performed numerous times for the President and First Lady at the White House. The concert begins at 7 p.m., tickets for this highly anticipated concert may sell out, purchase your ticket here.

The Awesome Fest Presents Spaceballs at Drexel Park: The Awesome Fest is keeping Philadelphians busy with its free outdoor movie screenings in Drexel Park (and other locations, too!). Tonight, Drexel Park hosts the ’80s favorite Spaceballs for a 9 p.m. showing. Also, this view is “ludicrous speed.”

Penn’s Landing’s Screenings Under the Stars Presents The Dark Knight Rises: It’s the first night of this year’s Penn’s Landing’s Screenings Under the Stars event. Tonight, catch a free screening of last summer’s biggest blockbuster, The Dark Knight Rises at the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing. The movie begins at 8 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and snacks to enjoy.

Fairmount French Fling Bar Crawl with Kronenbourg 1664 Beer: Fairmount is gearing up for Bastille Day (July 14) with a French-centric bar crawl at 10 bars throughout the neighborhood. The crawl starts at the Belgian Cafe at 6 p.m. and continues on to Fare, Urban Saloon, La Calaca Feliz, Bishop’s Collar, Lemon Hill, Brigid’s, Brown Street Pub, Rembrandt’s and finishes off at London Grill. Enjoy $3 Kronenbourg 1664 brews along the crawl.

The Q Fest’s G.B.F. Screening and Opening Night Party: Celebrate day one of The Q Fest, the East Coast’s largest LGBT film festival, tonight as two events open the festival. First, a screening of Darren Stein’s G.B.F., a high-school comedy spoofing the fashionability of a “gay best friend”, occurs at the Ritz East at 7:15 p.m. Following the film, a grand opening party takes over Lit Ultra Bar boasting the theme of prom night. Dress in your finest prom attire and dance to the sounds of DJ Jimmy DePre. Tickets are required for both events and are available online.

Movies Under the Stars at Bistrot la Minette Presents Would I Lie to You? 2: With Bastille Day quickly approaching, it’s only right to get in the French mood this evening. Tonight, Bistrot la Minette invites guests to enjoy French fare, French wine and a French film at the screening of Would I Lie to You? 2 in the courtyard. The event is free, but eats (guests who are interested in dinner fare are encouraged to make alfresco dining reservations at least 30 minutes before showtime) and drinks are pay as you go.

Art in the Age Free Happy Hour: Sip on free cocktails tonight at Art in the Age’s Thursday night happy hour, a new event set for Thursday evenings throughout the summer. Taste their fine organic liquors from 5 to 7 p.m., and try out all-new barware to prep you for your next night of at-home cocktail making.

PHS Pop Up Garden: If you haven’t visited the PHS Pop Up Garden yet, do so tonight. Across from the Kimmel Center at a University of the Arts-owned lot at 313 S. Broad Street, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society hosts its third Pop Up Garden. The lot plays home to a green space and pop up beer garden and restaurant. The beer garden and restaurant boasts hours from 5 to 10 p.m. tonight. Enjoy root beer, sangria and local craft beer from Philly favorites Victory Brewing Company, Yards Brewing Company and Philadelphia Brewing Company along with bites from Garces Group.
