Tonight Picks: Philadelphia Orchestra’s Free Neighborhood Concert Plus Fireworks At Penn’s Landing, Free Screening Of Rocky On The Art Museum Steps, The All-American Celebration On The Mall And More

Patriotism is on high tonight in the City of Brotherly Love with an assortment of pre-Independence Day fun.

Choose from a concert, a museum visit, an outdoor movie screening and even some fireworks at Penn’s Landing — all at no cost. That’s right, all 4th of July festivities tonight are free.

With the Wawa Welcome America festival in full swing and numerous other Fourth of July happenings, there is no shortage of events tonight or for the rest of the week. In addition to Fourth of July celebrations, other exciting events are also in-store for this Tuesday night.

Free Rocky Outdoor Screening at The Art Museum Steps: Tonight, attend a true Philly tradition at the famous Art Museum steps. Wawa Welcome America presents a free screening of Rocky as part of its annual fourth of July programming. Watch the film from the very steps that Rocky Balboa took on in the film. Philadelphia Orchestra’s Free Neighborhood Concert: Presented by Wawa Welcome America, the Philadelphia Orchestra returns to its hometown after its 40th-anniversary tour and residency in China. Head to Penn’s Landing tonight for a free pre-Indepenence Day concert at Penn’s Landing. This evening’s score will be made up of performances of of Bernstein’s Overture to Candide; Barber’s Commando March; Vieuxtemps’s Souvenir d’Amérique: Variations on Yankee Doodle; Copland’s Billy the Kid Suite; Grofé’s On the Trail, from The Grand Canyon Suite; and ends with Tchaikovsky’s rousing and patriotic 1812 Overture. Penn’s Landing Landside Fireworks Show: Immediately following the concert, a free landside fireworks display illuminates the sky. The show is estimated to begin at 9:15 p.m., but that is subject to change. Look to the sky a little before 9:15 p.m and a little after to make sure you catch the show. All-American Celebration on the Mall: The National Constitution Center hosts events all day and into the evening in honor of our nation’s birthday. Visit the NCC for free today as it offers admission at no cost and one-day-only extended hours (visit until 8 p.m.!). The NCC has another reason to celebrate today, it’s the museum’s 10-year anniversary, so the day is even more full of celebratory activities. Be sure to pay The 1968 Exhibit a visit.

Wicked at the Academy of Music: Rain or shine tonight, the popular musical Wicked flys into the Academy of Music for a spellbinding show. Tonight’s performance begins at 7:30 p.m. and invites guests to be swept away in the high-flying plot. The story centers on life before The Wizard of Oz in a musical featuring a young Wicked Witch of the West and a young Glinda the Good Witch of the North. Tickets are available here.

Mini-Golf at the Porch at 30th Street Station: A summer favorite returns to the Porch at 30th Street Station. Tonight, head out for free mini-golf outside of the bustling train station. Just swap a valid ID for a club, golf ball and score card. Sounds like a sweet deal to us. New this year: Board games will also be available for guest’s enjoyment. All games will be available for participants until 8 p.m. For those who miss the fun tonight, mini-golf will call the Porch its home every day for the entire month of July.
